Rob Rappaport talks about Freddy

Updated: Apr 6, 2019

When I first met Fred, I used to see him around Malibu. The more I got to know him, the more of his musical background and genius became clear. At the time, I had started an indie publishing and production company, with a small independent label.

One day, he invited me over to hear some of the songs he’d written. I was immediately impressed. Although it took some work to get the guitar vocals down so it could be arranged and produced, the album and its songs just flowed. We produced the album at The Village Studios in West LA, the same exact studio where every Steely Dan album was made. Sweetening and additional recording of strings and other instruments were done in Nashville, as was the mixing and mastering.

I’m proud of each and every note on the album. I think we accomplished a collaboration of musical work that will sound good every time you listen. Freddy Cory is an extremely talent musician and songwriter, and a true friend.

“Rob saw something in all the songs and made them come alive,” Freddy says. “It was a year long process. He’d send mixes and I’d listen to them make my suggestions, he’d listen to every suggestion I had and we’d go back and forth until we were both happy.”
